Patrol sleeping bags are lighter weight, pack up smaller, and are meant for temperate weather. Pair with a bivvy and pads for better insulation and waterproofing. By themselves they tend to be sufficient for warmer spring/fall and summer nights.
Surplus sleeping bags all come pre-farted in. If you want fart free sleeping bags, go buy new.
